Are you looking into taking the SAT, GRE or GMAT in the near future or know someone who is? For a limited time only (technically till December 3rd), there’s a highly-rated iPhone app that aims to improve your SAT/GRE/GMAT vocabulary the smart way. The IntelliVocab for GRE and GMAT Deluxe Edition app from Faqden Labs was created by MIT students who let Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Web Semantics research guide their work. This means the app personalizes your subsequent quiz questions based on what answers you correctly answered (and didn’t answer, too).
There are a few other features that make IntelliVocab different from a regular vocabulary flashcard app.
What’s On The App?
When you first launch the IntelliVocab Delux Edition app, you can set a date for your exam.
The app will automatically refer to this date later when it makes graphs of your progress in the Progress Report tab. Right now though, let’s not worry about Progress Reports. After you set the date, you can start practicing by testing your knowledge of 4,800+ vocabulary words.
You basically just need to choose an answer, and IntelliVocab will personalize subsequent words depending on whether or not your answer was correct, which you’ll know immediately after choosing it as it will be colored green if it was correct or red if it wasn’t.
If you’re done practicing some words, you can choose to end the practice session and look at the practice session details.
Overtime, you can take the timed test when you’ve practiced enough.
If you finish, you can take a look at the test details to get some immediate feedback.
You can also check out the progress report by tapping on Report on the bottom app dock.
This will tell you the latest test score, the number of words you have mastered and how much time you spent studying in your last session, among others. Taking the timed test more than once will further update your progress table, showing you how many entries you’ve mastered.
IntelliVocab Is More Than Regular Flashcards
Some of the basic flashcard apps simply do not have much to offer aside from shuffling and presenting you with extra, irrelevant choices in addition to the correct one, IntelliVocab uses the latest machine learning algorithms and web semantics techniques to discard words that you may not need. So the more you practice, the more accurate IntelliVocab will be in selecting your next words. You can read more about the algorithms that IntelliVocab uses at the company’s product page.
